CVSA International Roadcheck 2026: What Drivers Need to Know Before May Inspection Week
The CVSA International Roadcheck is one of the most watched inspection events of the year for commercial drivers.
This year, it is scheduled for May 12–14, 2026.
During this 72-hour inspection event, enforcement personnel across North America will be conducting inspections on commercial motor vehicles and drivers. If you are on the road that week, it is smart to make sure your truck, paperwork, and visible markings are in good shape before inspection time arrives.
What is International Roadcheck?
International Roadcheck is an annual three-day commercial vehicle inspection event organized by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, commonly known as CVSA.
Inspectors in the United States, Canada, and Mexico take part in this high-volume enforcement initiative, checking commercial vehicles and drivers for compliance with safety regulations.
For drivers, that means this is not the week to put off small issues. Something that seems minor now can become a bigger problem during a roadside inspection.
When is Roadcheck 2026?
CVSA has scheduled the 2026 International Roadcheck for May 12 through May 14, 2026.
If your truck has worn decals, hard-to-read numbers, damaged equipment, or paperwork issues, now is the time to address them.
What are inspectors focusing on this year?
According to CVSA, the 2026 focus areas are cargo securement and electronic logging device (ELD) tampering and falsifications.
That means drivers and fleets should pay extra attention to load securement, tie-down condition, and whether logs and ELD records are accurate and compliant.
Even if those are the highlighted focus areas, inspectors may still look at a wide range of safety and compliance items during an inspection.
What drivers should check before Roadcheck week
A little preparation now can save time, stress, and lost revenue later. Before Roadcheck begins, it is smart to review the basics:
- Make sure your cargo is properly secured
- Check tie-downs, straps, chains, anchor points, and related hardware for wear or damage
- Review your ELD records and supporting documents for accuracy
- Verify lights, tires, and other visible safety equipment are in working condition
- Make sure your USDOT number and other required markings are present and easy to read
Do not overlook your USDOT number
When drivers think about inspection week, they often focus on logs, tires, brakes, and paperwork.
But one of the easiest things to overlook is the visibility of your truck lettering.
If your USDOT decal is faded, peeling, low-contrast, too small, or hard to read from a distance, that is the kind of detail that can work against you during an inspection.
Your lettering should be clean, legible, and placed clearly on the vehicle. If it has been on the truck for a while, this is a good time to take a second look.
Quick pre-Roadcheck visibility checklist
Before May 12, walk around your truck and check:
- Can your USDOT number be read easily from a distance?
- Is the lettering still crisp and intact?
- Does the color contrast clearly with the vehicle?
- Is the decal placed on a flat, visible surface?
- Is anything dirty, faded, cracked, or peeling?
If the answer is no to any of those, replacing your lettering now is a lot easier than dealing with problems during inspection week.
Prepare now, not the night before
Roadcheck week puts a lot of attention on compliance, and drivers already have enough to think about without scrambling at the last minute.
